Ayurvedic medicine manufacturing — how our products are made
Ayurvedic medicine manufacturing is the process of turning approved compositions into finished, labelled packs that a chemist can sell and a patient can trust. It covers raw-material selection, preparation of the dosage form, filling, packing, labelling and the paperwork that ties a finished pack back to its batch. This page explains how that works for the herbal syrups, tablets, capsules, oils, powders, juices and cosmetic preparations in the Zivi Herbals range, and what it means for the partners and brand owners who order from us.
Dosage forms and what each one demands
Herbal syrups and liquid orals
Syrups make up the largest part of our catalogue — 37 products, usually in 100 ml and 200 ml packs. Liquid orals demand careful attention to extraction, filtration and filling: the herb content has to be consistent from the first bottle of a batch to the last, the liquid has to be clear of sediment where the formulation calls for it, and the closure has to seal properly so the product survives transport and shelf life.
Tablets and capsules
Our 47 tablets and capsules are supplied mainly in 10×10 blister packs. Solid orals are about uniformity: consistent weight, consistent hardness for tablets, consistent fill for capsules, and blister sealing that protects the product from moisture, which matters a great deal for herbal powders.
Oils and external preparations
Oils and liniments in our other-herbal-products range are filled into pack sizes from 30 ml upward. Here the concerns are the stability of the oil base, clean filling and leak-proof closures.
Juices
Herbal juices are filled in larger bottles and are sensitive to handling and storage. Packaging choice and sealing carry most of the weight in keeping a juice acceptable through its shelf life.
Powders, granules and single-herb products
Single-herb capsules and powders are the simplest compositions and the least forgiving: with one ingredient, the quality of that ingredient is the quality of the product.
Ayurvedic cosmetics
Creams, ointments, soaps and face-care products in our 17-product cosmetic range are governed by cosmetic labelling requirements as well as the general rules for Ayurvedic preparations, so artwork review matters as much as production.
From raw material to finished pack
- Raw material selection. Herbs and excipients are purchased against the approved composition and checked on receipt for identity, appearance and documentation from the supplier.
- Batch planning. Each batch is planned against a batch number that stays with the product through production, packing and dispatch.
- Preparation. The dosage form is prepared according to the process laid down for that product — extraction and mixing for liquids, granulation and compression for tablets, blending and filling for capsules and powders.
- In-process checks. Routine checks during the run — such as fill volume, weight and sealing — catch problems while the batch can still be corrected.
- Filling and packing. Product is filled into the approved pack, sealed, and packed into cartons and shippers.
- Labelling. Labels carry the declarations required for Ayurvedic products: composition, batch number, manufacturing and expiry dates, net quantity, MRP and manufacturer details.
- Release and dispatch. The batch is released for dispatch with its documentation, and stock moves to the partner or brand owner.
Why composition transparency matters
Every product on this website lists its full composition. That is unusual in this industry and it is deliberate. A doctor deciding whether to prescribe, a chemist advising a customer and a distributor explaining a product to a clinic all need the same information, and hiding it behind "proprietary blend" helps nobody. It also keeps our own promotion honest: we describe what is in the pack and the traditional classification of those ingredients, rather than promising outcomes.
The practical rule we follow is that the website, the price list and the label must agree. If a composition or a pack size changes, the price-list edition changes with it, and the website is updated at the same time.
Regulatory framework
Ayurvedic medicines in India are manufactured and labelled under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940 and the rules made under it, with Ayurvedic, Siddha and Unani products covered by their own schedule of requirements. Advertising is separately restricted by the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954, which prohibits claims to cure a long list of conditions.
What that means for anyone working with us:
- Product material describes composition, dosage form and pack — not cures.
- Labels carry the declarations the law requires, and artwork is reviewed against them before printing.
- Partners and brand owners are responsible for the licences their own business needs and for the claims they make in their own marketing.
This page is a description of practice, not legal advice. If your business needs a licence position confirmed, take it to your state licensing authority or a consultant who can advise on your specific case.
Manufacturing for other brands
The same production process is used when we manufacture for other brands under a third-party arrangement. The difference is whose name goes on the pack and who owns the artwork. If you want your own brand of herbal syrups, capsules, oils or cosmetics, the steps, documents and minimum quantities are set out on our herbal third-party manufacturing page.
Quality questions worth asking
- Is the composition on the label the composition you were quoted?
- Does the batch number on the carton match the invoice and the documents supplied?
- Are manufacturing and expiry dates printed clearly on every pack?
- Does the pack size on the label match what you ordered?
- Is the seal intact and the packing sound after transport?
These five checks take a minute per consignment and catch nearly every problem that matters commercially.
Storage and handling after dispatch
Herbal products are sensitive to heat and humidity. Store stock in a dry place away from direct sunlight, keep cartons off the floor, rotate on a first-expiry-first-out basis, and keep syrups and juices out of hot storerooms during summer. Most product complaints that reach us turn out to be storage problems in the distribution chain rather than production faults, and good stock rotation prevents almost all of them.
